Demystifying Judicial Appointment and Encouraging Judicial Ambition - A Seminar for GLD
You're warmly invited to this online event where you'll hear from members of the judiciary sharing their unique journeys and insights into the challenges and rewards of a judicial career. Our aim is to connect with Black legal professionals, other under-represented groups, and those from non-traditional routes into the judiciary.
Speakers will include:
Fiona Monk, Chamber President for the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal. Prior to taking up a full-time judicial role, Judge Monk worked as a solicitor spending the whole of her career, once qualified, working for a Law Centre and specialising in employment and discrimination law. For the latter part of her employment at the Law Centre she was their Senior Solicitor and part of the senior management team. From September 2017 to September 2019, Judge Monk was a Commissioner for The Judicial Appointments Commission. She is experienced in judicial recruitment both as a candidate, on interview panels and as a JAC Commissioner. She has facilitated on the Pre-Application Judicial Education Programme and is a Guide on the Targeted Outreach Programme and has mentored and coached many judges through the process.
