Salaried Judge of the First-tier Tribunal: Social Entitlement Chamber Pre-Application Seminar 2026
The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) will be launching a selection exercise in January to recruit Fee-paid Judges of the First-tier Tribunal. This seminar is focussed on the Social Entitlement Chamber (SEC).

The seminar
The Judicial Office is organising a pre-application seminar that will take place online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 7th January 2026 5-6pm.
The seminar aims to help applicants be better prepared to make an application and to receive up-to-date guidance and advice on the JAC’s selection process. As well as the JAC, you will also hear from Leadership judges of the SEC Chamber.
Who should attend?
Applications are invited from solicitors qualified in England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, barristers in England and Wales or Northern Ireland, advocates in Scotland, and Fellows of the Chartered institute of Legal Executives. Candidates must have five years post-qualification legal experience and are expected to have at least 30 sitting days as a judge or in a quasi-judicial capacity.
