Chancery Master Pre-Application Seminar 2026 (in-person and online)

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) will be launching a selection exercise in April to recruit 1 Chancery Master.

The Chancery Division is part of the Business and Property Courts of England and Wales based at the Rolls Building in London.

The seminar

The Judicial Office is organising a hybrid pre-application seminar that will take place in-person and online (via Microsoft Teams) on Thursday 16th April 2026 (5-6pm)

The in-person attendees will be expected to attend at the Rolls Building, Royal Courts of Justice, Fetter Lane, London, EC4A 1NL. Further details will be provided after registration.

The seminar aims to help applicants be better prepared to make an application and to receive up-to-date guidance and advice on the JAC’s selection process. As well as the JAC, you will also hear from the Chancellor, a Chief Master and current Master.

Who should attend?

It is essential that candidates applying for this post have relevant knowledge and experience in Chancery work.

Chancery Masters will be based at the Rolls Building and must live within a reasonable travelling distance of the building.

Message from Chief Master Shuman
"This is an opportunity to sit in the Business and Property Courts, established, in 2017, where  complex, high-value and sensitive claims in business and property matters are issued and determined.
The Chancery Masters form the second tier of the High Court judiciary. They hear and determine a substantial volume of cases including interlocutory applications such as strike out and summary judgment, case management, Part 8 disposal hearings and witness trials. The work at High Court level is legally complex, procedurally demanding and frequently multi jurisdictional. It includes trusts, estates, intellectual property, property and commercial disputes with cross border elements all requiring specialist expertise. The Chancery Masters work in a collegiate and supportive environment."
