Appointment of a High Court Judge: Cotter QC

The Queen is pleased to approve the appointment of a Justice of the High Court. This appointment will take effect from 1 October 2021.  It is anticipated that further appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The candidate approved as a High Court Judge is His Honour Judge Barry Cotter QC.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. Barry Cotter QC

His Honour Judge Barry Cotter QC, aged 58 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Cotter. He was Called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1985 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2002, as a Circuit Judge in 2010 and as a Senior Circuit Judge in 2018.

He will take up appointment on 1 October 2021.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign His Honour Judge Barry Cotter QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.
