District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Appointment: Barnes
The King has appointed Ian Barnes to be a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the Midland Circuit, based at Newcastle Under Lyme Magistrates’ Court with effect from 6 February 2023.
Background Information
Ian Barnes will be known as District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Barnes. He was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2010. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) in 2019, as a Chairman of the Special Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales in 2022 and as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber in 2023.
