Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber) Retirement: Poynter

Upper Tribunal Judge Richard Poynter retires with effect from 1 February 2023.

Background information

Upper Tribunal Judge Poynter was admitted as a Solicitor in 1985. He was appointed a part-time Chairman of the Social Security Appeal Tribunals in 1998, a Legally Qualified Panel Member of Appeal Tribunals in 1999 and a Deputy Social Security and Child Support Commissioner in 2000. He was appointed a District Chairman of Appeal Tribunals (now known as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Social Entitlement Chamber)) in 2002 and a Legal Member of the Gender Recognition Panel in 2005. He was appointed a Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge (Administrative Appeals Chamber) in 2008 and a Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber) in 2018.
