What are Valuer Members and Chairs?

Valuer Members adjudicate on applications and appeals regarding disputes over property.  There may be opportunity to participate in mediation for which training will be provided. Valuer Members will generally sit with a Judge or Chair, and in some cases with another panel member, who may be a lawyer, valuer, professional or lay member. Valuer Chairs adjudicate on applications and appeals regarding disputes over property and draft the final tribunal decision. There may be opportunity to participate in mediation, for which training will be provided. Valuer Chairs may sit alone or with one or two other panel members, who may be lawyers, valuers, professional or lay members. Full details can be found in the Valuer Chair Job Description 

These roles are open to chartered surveyors who are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. It is an excellent opportunity to sit on a wide variety of interesting cases dealing with applications, appeals and references relating to disputes over property and land (with Chairmen drafting the final tribunal decision).

Within the drop down for ‘Type of Judge’ you can choose ‘Tribunal Judge’ and then choose the option for ‘Valuer Member’ under the ‘Jurisdiction’ drop down.
